Stage

The Bauhaus-stage performances are said to be legendary and a field for interdisciplinary experimentation. Students of all fields were to participate in the stage workshop to explore the methods of stage work.

Bauhaus Stage, Dessau

With the move into the new school building in Dessau, in 1926 the Bauhaus gained a “house-stage” of its own. Although there had been a stage workshop in Weimar from 1921, “we [...] had to give our productions on a sort of dubious suburban podium there”.

St. Mary in the Moon

The figurine shows the protagonist "Maria im Mond" (St. Mary in the Moon) of Schreyer’s stage play "Mondspiel" (Moon Play), which incorporated elements of traditional images of the Virgin Mary in its design.

Hand-Puppet Heads

Röhl’s hand-carved and painted hand-puppet heads illustrate the work of the Bauhaus’s stage workshop and combine elements of naïve art and peasant traditions with Expressionist influences.
