Walter's Handbag

Mobile Bauhaus Children's Museum

Out of the museum, into the city: This is the approach taken by the mobile museum "Walter's Handbag". Dessau primary school pupils take a look behind the scenes, become museum curators, design for themselves, and experience collecting and preserving as an active process.

Children's Museum "TatSachen!"

In a first step, the children's museum "TatSachen!" was created. Inspired by the children's book "Kubbe's Museum" by Norwegian illustrator Ashild Kanstadt Johnsen, it opened temporarily in the summer of 2018. In the book, Kubbe experiences collecting, preserving and researching as the basis for exhibitions. The aim was to make it possible for children to experience collecting and communicating a collection as an active, self-developing process. Together, they created and categorized their own collection. The children formulated questions about what they had collected, conducted research into their collection, and designed and presented it. Together with artists Ursula Achterkamp, Ottonie von Roeder and their teachers, they worked with textiles, architecture and digital designs. They created an exhibition for participation and further development using tactile paths, a Lego building station, a textile net that could be crocheted with the fingers, and much more.
