Furniture-making project: participatory spatial design
The summer workshop will take place at Bauhaus Dessau from 8th to 12th July 2019. Registration is possible from now on. Up to 15 children and young people, together with architect Thomas Wienands, will be constructing a collection of furniture for the visitor workshops of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. The starting point for this modular furniture system will be designs and ideas by pupils at the Grundschule am Luisium.

During the furniture-making project at the Grundschule am Luisium supervised and supported by Thomas Wienands, third year pupils developed initial ideas and designs for a modular furniture collection for their school over the course of a 2-day workshop.
The basis for this work was an evaluation of questionnaires that Thomas Wienands had developed in the run-up to the workshop and then distributed to all the protagonists at the school. The pupils learnt how to think and work like a collective architectural office, thereby enquiring about the users' needs, incorporating them into their ideas and concretising them as a design for realisation. The pupils' findings and models were subsequently translated by Thomas Wienands into a modular furniture system that could be implemented.
