Bauhaus Researchers and Bauhaus Experts

Bauhaus Tours

A series of workshops took young people on an exciting journey, from first encountering the Bauhaus via the investigation and assimilation of various themes, methods, and design opportunities to their own concept of communication. Together with Bauhaus Agents, teachers, and artists, the pupils developed new tours of the Bauhaus building communicating their freshly discovered knowledge to others in a different way – exciting tours imagined for schoolchildren by schoolchildren. Since January 2019 they can be booked through the visitor service of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation.

My Bauhaus – Assimilation

In the workshop Bauhaus: What's it to me? pupils from class 6a of the Friedensschule accessed the hall and shop of the Bauhaus as special, interesting locations. They developed questions and used them as a starting point from which to approach the historical Bauhaus in an unconventional way. Together the pupils conducted research, developed text fragments and realized them as body movements on the Bauhaus stage.

For Schoolchildren by Schoolchildren – Communication

In several workshops on the subject "Bauhaus tour for schoolchildren", young people collected statements, wishes and visions regarding the new concept for a schoolchildren's tour. They developed text fragments for tours under the headings "A crazy night in the BAUHAUS", "The BAUHAUS treasure" and "Mysterious happenings in the BAUHAUS". In small groups, the young people made up quiz questions that were subsequently tested by other groups and evaluated according to degree of difficulty and fun factor. In a next workshop the children's preparation work and materials flowed into an interactively designed tour for schoolchildren. The advantage of the participative approach is that the pupils' wishes and opinions are incorporated directly into the development of the format. In addition, the methods from theatre and dance education employed at the start of the process facilitated a playful approach and a low-threshold, pleasurable study of themes relating to the Bauhaus. After several tests and subsequent partial revision, the interactive tours by Bauhaus researchers and Bauhaus experts emerged. Both tours have been part of the regular educational communication programme of the Foundation Bauhaus Dessau since January 2019. On the tours young people now find out in team or partner work, by means of their own research, something about design, modern architecture, building materials, colour design and multifunctionality. Activity sheets encourage varied, creative and playful interactions with the modern ideas of the Bauhaus, as well as independent discovery and invention.
