Cover of the Bauhaus Exhibition Catalogue
Herbert Bayer and László Moholy-Nagy, 1923
[Translate to English:] Text
The catalogue for the 1923 exhibition was more than just the first large publication to present the Bauhaus’s output and endeavours. Its square format, unusual text-image relationship and innovative layout – for which László Moholy-Nagy was responsible – still single it out from the mass of books today. The binding designed by Herbert Bayer also underpins the impression of something special in that the later advocate of lower case lettering used only capital letters for the cover, filling the surface area with an attractive alternation of red and blue blocks of letters.
