Telly. Mädchenporträt / Foto: Walter Peterhans, um 1928–1932.
[Translate to English:] headline
Staged like a still life, the photograph Telly. Mädchenporträt (Telly. Portrait of a Girl) displays few of the traits of a portrait, in that the subject’s facial features cannot be discerned and there are no characteristic attributes that point to her identity. Apparently it was not the photographer’s objective to render a recognisable subject. Instead, Walter Peterhans was far more interested in the play of light and shadow on the various surfaces and structures as well as the idiosyncratic contrast between the suppleness of the hair and the stiffness of the fabric strips.
