Bauhaus Prints: New European Graphics
Lyonel Feininger und Otto Dorfner, 1921
The ambitious Bauhaus edition project, which was hoped to bring additional revenues and a greater public presence, was directed by Lyonel Feininger and realised in the workshops for printing and bookbinding. From 1921 to 1924, it was possible to deliver four of the five planned portfolios. The first contained graphics by the Bauhaus masters, who like all the other artists had donated their works. The third and fifth portfolios contained works by German artists only, the fourth works by Italian and Russian artists. The second portfolio was to contain graphics of French origin, but this remained incomplete and was therefore never published.
