United Puppets
A piece for adults and children aged 12 and over
Between 1916 and 1925, Paul Klee made 50 fascinating puppets for his son Felix. Enrapturing gender-neutral creations, objects between toy and artwork, changing between bizarre, grotesque and comic bodies, the heads formed from everyday waste such as beef bones, sockets and bristle brushes, the costumes from pieces of fur, material leftovers, finished with paint. They are the result of a dialogue between adult and child, father and son, playful, private arts and crafts work, with which Klee portrayed his contemporaries: Opera heroes, family members and friends, but who also at the same time reflect the notions and figures of Klee’s world of images. The United Puppets group relates elements of Paul Klee’s life with perfect copies of the originals.
