The Bauhaus Comes from Weimar

Featuring contemporary architecture and innovative exhibition design, the bauhaus museum weimar will present numerous treasures from the world’s oldest Bauhaus collection for the first time.

Starting in April 2019, this new place of encounter, openness and discussion on five storeys will connect Weimar’s Bauhaus history to questions about our present and future lifestyle. Based on the central theme “How do we want to live together?”, the exhibition will highlight key issues which are just as relevant today as they were in the day of the Bauhaus.
In Weimar – the birthplace of the State Bauhaus – the museum revisits the early phase of the most influential school of art and design of the 20th century. On a tour of those significant years of art and contemporary history, visitors will be introduced to the Bauhaus and its roots in modernism around 1900, as well as contemporary positions of design, art, architecture and society.

At the museum workshop, visitors of all ages can participate in diverse activities. The exhibition itself will include numerous opportunities to interactively learn about the Bauhaus.

The museum is accessible to handicapped visitors from all central access points. A tactile guidance system will be installed on the plaza leading to the front entrance. In keeping with the goal of being open to all, the museum and its services have been specially designed for inclusivity and handicap accessibility.
