Make holes – Seriously?
Workshop series "Vorkurs üben"
When?
Sun, 19.01.2020 | 11:00 - 14:00
What?
Workshop / Seminar / Lab
This workshop series explores every Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm the exercises assigned to students in the famous preliminary course at the Bauhaus.
In this workshop we revisit one of the strangest tasks in Josef Albers’ preliminary course. He apparently instructed his students to “make a hole in the paper” and then left them to it. What was the purpose of the exercise? This is the focus of our investigation – and the result will be a collection of holes. We will make the holes and study what happens when we punch, cut, rip and perforate paper, and what design possibilities arise from making holes – also in combination with other materials.
Friederike Holländer has worked at the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung as part of the Bauhaus Agents programme in Berlin since 2016. She studied architecture and has taught at the Berlin University of the Arts as a visiting lecturer since 2018.
