What?
Workshop / Seminar / Lab
This workshop series explores every Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm the exercises assigned to students in the famous preliminary course at the Bauhaus.
Gymnastic exercises, feeling and tasting, free drawing, strict geometric drawing, combining colours, crafting paper architecture, finding balance and more – the Bauhaus preliminary course was experimental and multifaceted. This workshop is also devoted to enhancing creativity and sharpening one’s senses. At various stations, the participants gain insights into the themes and methods used by the preliminary course instructors Johannes Itten, László Moholy-Nagy and Josef Albers, and can try their exercises in a hands-on manner. A guided tour featuring sketch models provides the theoretical tools and presents selected (preliminary course) items.
Rúben Gonzáles Escudero, Julia Marquardt, Zara Morris and Doro Petersen work as art mediators for museums and schools in Berlin including the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung. With backgrounds in visual arts, photography, graphic design, fashion and illustration, the four artists never run out of ideas to acquaint museum goers of all ages to the Bauhaus cosmos. The exercises presented in this workshop were chosen and developed further with pupils from the Nelson Mandela School as part of the Bauhaus Agents programme.
