WERKstatt Schlemmer

Visions of a future Bauhaus

Where?

Gotha, Herzogliches Museum Gotha

When?

28.04.2019 - 28.07.2019

What?

How can we respond to the challenges of our time with the ideas of the Bauhaus and the experiences of the twentieth century? Shape your personal visions for the future in art studios with visual artists, let your imagination run free as you watch the montage films of Alexander Kluge, and check out the current development phase of the human-robot dance project „Dancetronic-Gotha“.

The youthful zest for free experimentation and bold utopian creativity that kept the Bauhaus in a state of perpetual change during the bare 14 years of its institutional existence comes to life once again in the hands-on workshop WERKstatt Schlemmer.

This aesthetic education programme invites visitors to contribute to its shaping and perceives itself as a performative necessity: a purely retrospective exhibition of Schlemmer’s works would inevitably museum-ise the Bauhaus and collide with its project-based character.
