A workshop for young people aged 15 and over and adults under the direction of Susanne Stehle, Andrés Belmar and Martina La Ragione

Oskar Schlemmer wrote in his diary about the square of the chest, the circle of the stomach, the cylinder of the neck, the ball of the head and the triangle of the nose. These notions of a geometrical abstraction of the organic body shape are addressed in his concept of the Triadic Ballet.

We want to build our own chests, stomachs and necks! They don’t necessarily have to be geometric, but should change our body shapes. What happens with our body when a leg suddenly gets really heavy or thick or immovable? Or the head can no longer be turned? I can still move – but how?

In the two-day workshop each participant “builds” their own costume, inspired by the Triadic Ballet. The one condition – the body’s organic motion sequence must be restricted in some way, otherwise all is allowed. On old long pillow around the stomach and we have the circle, although the arms now stand away from the body. Trouser legs made of cardboard boxes, plywood clothes, lampshade hats or “ball hands” like the figure in the Triadic Ballet – and the body and every movement feel totally different. Two afternoons, so that each participant can build their own Triadic costume. The materials are simple, can be found on the street or in the refuse and brought along (some things also prepared!), like, for example: Paper, cardboard, packaging materials, wood, socks, fabric, paint – everything that can be prepared with scissors, glue, hammer, nails, brush, needle and thread. On the last day each participant presents a costume, striding, hopping, crawling, jumping or dancing, rehearsed with Martina La Ragione.
