This important anniversary will be celebrated in Bauhaus tradition at its best in 2019: experimental, varied in shape and form, transnational and radically contemporary. „100 Years Bauhaus“ is the framework into which the anniversary programme is embedded. In keeping with the motto “Reinvent the World”, the Bauhaus-Verbund is going to take you on
a trip, together with regional, national and international partners, to rediscover both the historic witnesses and its present day and future importance, in 2019.
1,000 years of castle history – from the Middle Ages up to Modernity – can be explored on the premises of Castle Leuchtenburg. 500-year-old dungeons can be found in line with the highly modern Skywalk that evokes an illusion of poking out of an ancient sand stone wall. From the Visitor Centre with roomhigh windows, one can view the picturesque nature. When it comes to new construction, everyone designs in their own era: Experience the up-to-date and the historic Castle Leuchtenburg. Here, Bauhaus has a tradition.
Timeless, objective, functional: In 2019, Castle Leuchtenburg will show design treasures that have never been exhibited before and come from the remarkable Högermann Collection. The exhibits of the Berlin-based design historian, museum curator and collector Dieter Högermann was delivered to Castle Leuchtenburg in 1,100 banana boxes. Their contents: porcelain as well as design objects of the “Gute Form” Movement as well as industrial designs of the 60s and 70s. They contain art works by well-renowned designers including Josef Hoffmann, Gerhard Marcks and his scholar Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain. The artists Trude Petri, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Hermann Gretsch, Artur Hennig and many more will also be represented in the exhibition.
